Where The Great River Rises

This atlas of the Connecticut River watershed in Vermont and New Hampshire is a lavishly illustrated, comprehensive and interdisciplinary study of the natural and human elements that comprise the Upper Connecticut River watershed. My artwork has been included in a section of the book about how this area has inspired and influenced artists for generations. It's a fascinating book and I'm very proud to have my artwork a part of it.

Wrenzine Cover Art 2010

My artwork "White Egret II" was chosen to grace the cover of the Winter/Spring 2010 Wrenzine magazine. WREN (Women's Rural Entrepreneurial Network), a non-profit organization which began in 1994, publishes this magazine. Their mission is to provide learning opportunities, connects people with one another, creates and supports local markets for entrepreneurs and provides access to resources many small business owners couldn't afford on their own. The magazine is an informative and interesting resource for rural entrepreneurs seeking to start or grow a small business. And, naturally, I made a point of informing my husband that he can now tell people he's married to a "cover girl"!

Second Place Award - Plymouth Art Show 2009

I was honored with a Second Place Award in the Watercolor Division of the Plymouth Art Show this year. My painting, "Eye On The Prize", won the award from the judging committee, following their review of the many talented painters offering their best work. I also received a Purchase Prize from a local business, Main Street Dental, located in downtown Plymouth. They selected one of my bird images titled, "Nuthatch". It's especially nice to be chosen by one of the local businesses who support this long standing annual art event in the community. The weather was definitely THE challenge of the day. All the artists and visitors who braved the heavy rains should have an award for coming out that day! It was raining when we set up, rained all day and just poured when it came time to break it down again. Despite the rain, it's a great little show and I was happy to come home with two awards to add to my studio wall.

First Place Award - Littleton Art Show 2009

Finally! I've been trying to win the First Place Award at the Littleton Art show for the past few years and my hard work was rewarded this year. My painting, "Eye On The Prize", (so appropriately named !) received the honors, which I welcomed with a whoop of joy when the chamber staff presented it to me. This painting came about following a lengthy afternoon visit to the Squam Lake Science Center one day last summer. I spent several hours photographing the mountain lions and waiting for just the right pose. I finally captured the image I had been waiting for, following many photographs of just the tails and/or bum shots, heads with the ears cut off or just plain out of focus because my photo skills weren't quite quick enough. Persistance pays off after all!

Society of Animal Artist Show - 2009

I just received notification that one of my newest owl paintings, "Eastern Screech Owl" has been accepted for the annual Society of Animal Artists Small Works - Big Impressions show in November. This year, the show will be hosted by The Wildlife Experience in Parker, Colorado. Located 10 miles from Denver, this venue is a wildlife conservation museum dedicated to promoting the understanding of the natural world, and it's conservation. This facility houses an extensive collection of paintings, sculpture, photography and large-format film to name a few! A portion of the sales of the art from the show will go to the Wildlife Experience. This will be my "debut" show with the Society and I hope the beginning of a long career with them.

First Place Award - 2009

I was honored with a First Place Award at the White Mountain Artisan Festival in Jackson, NH the weekend of August 15th and 16th. Judging at this show is done on the quality of an artist's overall body of work on exhibit rather than a specific piece of art. Given the number of talented artists at this show, I'm especially thrilled to have been chosen for this award out of all the beautiful art there. This show turned out to be a test of our endurance too, given the extremely hot temperatures and humidity for the entire weekend. I think every artist who was still standing at the end of the day on Sunday should be given an award! Despite the hot weather, there was an appreciative crowd and I had a chance to meet some new collectors of my art work and catch up with previous buyers and fellow artists.

Art of the Animal Kingdom XIV Exhibit 2009

I recently received an acceptance letter to this annual wildlife art exhibition, which has been one of my goals for many years. I'm sure my screech of delight was heard across the country when I opened "The Envelope". This is one of the top national wildlife art exhibitions and a big stepping stone for my career as a wildlife artist. My painting, "Brook Trout" will be on exhibit along with approximately 80 artworks, including some of the biggest names in wildlife art, at the Bennington Center for the Arts in Bennington, Vermont. Please see the Exhibition Schedule Page on my website for more information on the show.

Southeastern Wildlife Arts Expo 2009

In February I had an opportunity to attend the Southeastern Wildlife Art Exposition with my friend and fellow wildlife artist, Rosemary Conroy. This is the largest wildlife art exhibition held on the East Coast and they weren't kidding when the organizer I spoke with told me the show brought in 40,000 attendees. I think they were all there at the same time I was! I had an opportunity to see a lot of beautiful wildlife art and talk with artists about their experience at the show. It's definitely a show I'm going to work hard to be a part of in the future. In addition to the art exhibition, there were also a variety of wildlife related exhibitors and educational conservation exhibits. The city of Charleston is very easy to get around in and we were able to walk everywhere. And naturally, that famed southern hospitality was an added bonus for making the trip a very pleasant experience.

Donation of Art - Trout Unlimited Chapter

Each year for the past five years, I've donated a print of one of my trout paintings to the MadDog Chapter of Trout Unlimited's (Vermont Chapter)annual fund raising event. They auction off donated items to attendees and the money raised is used on projects to improve river habitat and ensure development of native trout species in local streams. I've learned The MadDog Chapter is not just a wacky name for trout fishers and conservationists but is the watershed area of the Mad River and Dog River in Vermont. The Dog River in particular is a wonderful wild trout fishery. The president of the chapter was kind enough to let me know my trout paintings have generated lots of enthusiastic and competitive bidding over the years. It's a great feeling to know my artwork is so appreciated and is helping the conservation efforts for wild trout species in a few New England streams.

2008 Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors

I'm pleased to report one of my paintings, "Disappearing World" was selected for a very prestigious watercolor exhibition held at the Arts Center/Old Forge in Old Forge, New York in 2008. I created this painting (see the Animal Art Gallery page)from photographs my grandparents took while traveling in Churchill, Canada many years ago. I've wanted to paint it for many years and decided the time had come to give it a try. The growing awareness of how global warming impacts climates around the world has brought the environmental situation of polar bears as well as other wildlife to the forefront. My grandparents were great enthusiasts of the natural world and always encouraged my interest in wildlife art. So, this painting was done in memory of them and for anyone else who shares a love of wild places and a desire to see them preserved.
