Rainbow Trout Watercolor

Rainbow Trout
First Place Award:
2007 Summer Breeze Art Festival
Best of Show Award:
2007 White Mountain Arts Festival
Third Place Award:
2007 Plymouth Fall Arts Festival

This is one of three trout paintings and also one of the largest pieces I've created so far. Trying paintings of this size was a real test of my skills and I'm very happy the judges at several festivals honored me with awards for my efforts. Looks like I may have to turn my paintbrush to large paintings again for next year!

On the Rocks Watercolor

On The Rocks
First Place Award:
2006 Annual Plymouth Art Show
First Place Award:
2006 Wolfeboro Arts & Crafts Festival

This little gem of a painting was an instant hit at the festivals and captured a couple of awards for me the first year I had it on exhibit. I'm happy to report it's found a home in Plymouth, NH following an art show at the Spear Memorial Hospital in December. I donated a portion of my sales from this show to the hospital to help raise funds for new mammography equipment. So, no excuses now for you ladies in the Plymouth area....get your annual mammogram!

Finding the Sweet Spot

Finding the Sweet Spot
First Place Award:
2006 White Mountain Arts Festival

This painting was created from photos I took several years ago and it took me a while to work up the courage to attempt this painting and accurately capture all the angles, colors and lighting. And yes ... the grass took a long time to paint! Horses are incredibly challenging to draw but remain one of my favorite animal subjects to paint. I hope to have some new horse paintings to show you during the 2008 season.

An Apple A Day

An Apple A Day
First Place Award:
2006 Summer Breeze Arts Festival

Who doesn't love an owl? Or an old apple tree for that matter! The owl in this painting is a Barred owl, one of the largest owl species found in our woods here. Receiving an award for this painting was especially nice because the judge is a local art instructor and an exceptional watercolor artist in her own right. It was thrilling to have my artwork meet her standards with this piece.

"Beauty Of The Beast" Solo Exhibition
September 12th - October 6th, 2008

An exhibit featuring new works will be opening at the Gallery At Wren, on Main Street in Bethlehem this coming fall. This show will pay tribute to the natural world found in the White Mountains of New Hampshire, an ideal location for me to exhibit my artwork of animals since many of the subjects in my paintings can be found in this area. This exhibit will also feature some paintings of wildlife species currently threatened by habitat loss or climate change. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to showcase a lot of new work and hope to see many of you there for the opening reception. Be on the lookout for more details as it gets closer to Fall!

New York City Art Expo

New York Art Expo 2008
In early March I attended the annual New York Art Exposition held in New York City and it was an eye-opening experience! Aside from seeing the city and all it has to offer, the Art Expo was a opportunity for me to see how a large international art show functions (approx 500 booths) and the logistics for showing one's artwork there. I saw a lot of beautiful art and a chance to talk with many artists in the "solo artists" section of the show as well as with several galleries showcasing animal art. I spent close to 8 hours there and still didn't see everything! It has certainly gotten me thinking about showing my work at large venue art shows and it was an inspiration for creating some new pieces for my own upcoming show this fall.

60th Annual NH Art Association Currier Museum of Art Exhibition
My painting, "Rainbow Trout" has been accepted into the 60th Annual New Hampshire Art Association’s Currier Museum exhibit. This year’s show will be hosted by the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester, NH while renovations continue at the Currier Museum of Art. This event will mark my entrance into exhibitions sponsored by the NH Art Association and since the awards haven't been announced yet, I'm still hopeful! I'm guessing I'll have to find something other than my trusty bluejeans to wear to this event! For any of you who might be interested in seeing the show, the exhibit runs from Thursday, January 31 – Saturday, March 1, 2008 with an opening reception to be held on Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 5-8pm. In the event of inclement weather (this being winter in New England afterall), the opening reception will be held Friday, February 1, 2008.

Society of Animal Artists
Receiving an acceptance letter to this art organization was a great way to end the 2007 year! This is a world-reknown art organization headquartered in New York city and one to which I have aspired to join for many years. The Society is devoted to promoting excellence in the portrayal of the creatures sharing our planet, and to the education of the public through informative art seminars, lectures and teaching demonstrations. I've been accepted as an Associate Member and I have great hopes this will lead to opportunities for professional advancement on a national level in the future. I'll keep you updated as I have news to share on this exciting endeavor.

2007 Women & Company Microenterprise Boost Award
I was pleased to be one of the recipients of this annual award administered through a program at the Women's Rural Entrepreneuriel Network (WREN) in Bethlehem, NH and the Citigroup Foundation. The award enables women microentrepreneurs the opportunity to achieve greater business success by providing cash awards that will have a measurable impact on the development of their business. Receiving this grant allowed me to expand on the marketing plan for my art and focus more of my time on the creation of new artwork, which will highlight wildlife threatened by loss of habitat. Be sure to look for this artwork next year!

Ribbons

New Hampshire Art Association
I'm very excited to announce I was accepted into this professional art organization this year. The jury looks for maturity of artistic concept, a mastery of the medium and competence in composition to name a few of the judging standards. It has been on my list of goals for many years now and I'm looking forward to exhibition opportunities around the state. I'll keep you posted on any of my artwork which is included in events sponsored by this group.
